Could anyone help me get this effect in resin?

Postby gippaloo » Sat Jan 17, 2015 4:13 pm

Would anyone be able to help me? I have really been trying to achieve this effect and haven't had any success with it... Tried this morning with a casting resin and some food colouring but the food colouring just floated to the top and wouldn't mix with the resin. Could someone maybe share the way to get the smoky colour effect in resin? Am I using the wrong type of resin? This is what I was using:

And this is what I am trying to get:

Thanks to anyone who can help!! :)

Hi,
I haven't tried to get the effect your looking for , but when it comes to adding pigment to resin , you really want something that is formulated for that purpose like these.

I have used these pigments , they are dense and highly concentrated, you might have more luck with them.

RageOfAchilles is spot on - food colouring does not have the correct base to use for these purposes. For pigments here in Oz check out www.barnes.com.au ;)
Oh yeah I can make that....
