You can print in wax and then have a resin master. Bronze is overkill. We all use resin duplicates for production masters and even after a couple of generations there's no degradation. I've been told that Forge World production casts are actually fourth generation parts.

I was referred to someone who provides this service, along with the ability to work from just about any 3D format, is willing to fix minor issues, gives advice on the potential results of any given project, prepares sprues as necessary etc. A fairly comprehensive service, and from the looks of things, good value for money. The casting into another material is a necessity due to the wax being printed, which in turn is a result of the high quality printer being used. Being this particular wax though, it allows for investment casting.

The metal master is also useful in not degrading or reacting with the silicone (or so I'm told).


While yes it might be slightly more expensive, it also means it's less likely to suffer damage, though being left around, knocked, cut at, scraped, bent, and generally handled.

Of course, final judgement is likely to be when the quote is issued!

But isn't the wax rather fragile if you'd touch it? Or does it turn rock solid? Can it also handle that kinda detailing?

What about print lines?

The wax is relatively fragile, which is why it must be recast into another material as soon as possible, and why it probably wouldn't survive shipping across the ocean twice for inspection before recasting.

The print resolution is in the 0.025mm range vertically, which should provide a reasonably high quality as far as print lines go. The horizontal is in the 0.0127mm range, which is also the maximum vertical resolution but is slow and wasteful (and does not provide a worthwhile increase in quality, we are told).

I wanted to post this in my thread, but the whole idea of a triple post kinda turned me off, especially for this sort of thing.

I don't know how busy you are with filling the gaps, but if you have a .stl file, you can send it . Netfabb offer this cloud service thing, they'll check and fix your model quickly, and for free!
